Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF)
Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF)

October 07, 2019

You've probably heard of the terms furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, and air conditioners. Most people have never heard of a variable refrigerant flow system, yet your building could be missing out. These are powerful, effective, adjustable, and energy-efficient heating and cooling systems with a short payback. Continue reading this article if you want to understand more about VRF technology and how you may benefit from it.
History of VRF System
VRF system still in their infancy in the United States. Daikin, a Japanese HVAC manufacturer, was the first to develop these systems in 1982. This technique is used in 50 percent of midsize office buildings and 33 percent of large office spaces in Japan. It arrived in the early 2000s, primarily as a cost-effective alternative to heat and cool commercial buildings.

What Is the Working Principle of VRF System?

VRF systems are extremely complex in terms of technology, but think of them as a more advanced form of ductless mini-splits. Heat pumps or heat recovery systems are used in VRF systems to offer powerful heating and cooling for all indoor and outdoor units without the usage of air ducts.
With a VRF system, your building will have many indoor units that are serviced by a single outdoor condensing unit, which can be either a heat pump or a heat recovery system. The key distinction between the two is that the latter may supply both heating and cooling at the same time. The outdoor unit features compressors with inverter-driven fans, which means their speed may be varied by modifying the power supply frequency. The rate determines the amount of refrigerant delivered by the compressor. When the indoor unit sends a demand to the outdoor unit, the outdoor unit distributes the proper amount of refrigerant to each individual indoor unit. One of the numerous benefits of VRF technology is that it can operate at high capacity without the use of ducts.

Advantages of a Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF)

The following list of advantages will explain how a VRF system can be beneficial:

1.Customized heating and cooling:

In traditional HVAC systems, the only options are on or off. VRF systems can simultaneously heat and cool multiple zones within a building, and occupants can tailor the temperature settings.

2.Flexible Design:

The product is available in a variety of types and sizes, allowing it to fit any application. There is sleek and tiny equipment available, so if you have limited space, this could be an ideal option.

3.Runs at A Low Volume:
Unlike older HVAC technology, VRF systems are very quiet and will not bother building occupants when they are functioning.

4.Easy Installation:

Installation is simple because the units are often smaller and lighter than equipment with ducts. You won't even need to bring in the giant cranes for rooftop placements because most can accommodate service elevators. We understand how critical this is for businesses who need to resume normal operations as soon as possible.

5.Energy Saving:

These systems are up to 30% more efficient than traditional HVAC systems. They save energy by varying the compressor speed and only supplying the required temperature. Furthermore, because it does not require ducting, there will be no energy loss.

One Last Note

Superior comfort, energy savings, design flexibility, and other benefits are all provided by a VRF system.
